Spirited Away: Jiufen, Taiwan

Jiufen is a small coastal town in Taiwan that some say inspired Hayao Miyazaki’s anime classic Spirited Away. Whether that’s true or not, the town has a magic all its own.

The streets are windy, the buildings close together, and the ocean seems to be swallowing the town whole, especially on this rainy day.

Through a seemingly endless maze of winding alleyways, you can find trinkets and food galore!

Food, food, and more food! But the highlight had to be the grand teahouse adorned with red lanterns.

With so much rain, it felt like a steamy bathhouse, but no frogs or goblins to be found within! Only delicious tea.

  1. That is some view from your room looks like you are on a mountain. So much rain, so many markets. Small areas with so much trinkets and food, reminds me of a dollar store. Love the interesting foods. Love the pictures of Harold looks always handsome, but where is Jennifer don’t see her that often in the pictures. Or maybe you guys should take selfies? Enjoy Love ya God bless
