Summer Palace and Wangfujin Night Market, Beijing

The Summer Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a rich history, formerly used by Chinese imperials as a summer getaway from Beijing.

Today, it’s a picturesque park with plenty of architecture to admire, all amidst the brisk air of Kunmin Lake. The weather was gorgeous, a beautiful fall breeze and changing colored leaves all around. The park was bigger than we expected!

We took a delightful dragon ferry boat across the glistening lake to a small island connected by a long walking bridge. The view looking back towards the Summer Palace as we floated by was gorgeous! We’re really loving the Fall weather that we missed in Boston!🍁🍂

At night, we visited the Wangfujin Market, known for its eccentric foods for sale. The sights and smells did not disappoint (depending on how you look at it)! 😷😅🦂 Scorpions, centipedes, and cicadas for sale.

With a big trip tomorrow, we’ll have to save the grasshoppers, scorpions, and bugs for another time. 😅

  1. Beautiful view of the Palace in the background. Were you able to go inside and look around the Palace? Nice place to live cause you have an awesome view of the area. Autumn is in the air here too, such a beautiful season, missing home? The market place has some things that I would skip like Scorpions etc. No thanks. What are you eating Harold?
    Enjoy Love ya God bless

    1. Yeah, we went inside the palace! Its surroundings is definitely the main attraction though! In the last pic, I forget the name but I’m eating an “apple-like” fruit on a stick, caramelized. Tasty treat!
